    Default mandoguitar

I saw this backstage at John Mellencamp the other night...
thought i'd post it here for all to see. didn't watch the whole show so didn't get to hear it.

Tenor guitar with pairs of strings, guitar tuning.
good for guitarists who can't adapt to 5ths i guess...

Looks like a Phantom "Mando Guitar".

    Here's their description:

    MandoGuitarŪ

Unique design, with a distinctive sound made popular by George Harrison.

Just imagine a short scale 12-string guitar tuned one octave higher - it gives the player the ability to play standard guitar fingerings - yet sounds like a cross between an electric mandolin and a 12-string guitar capoed at the 12th fret. Scale 15.85

    $699.00

    Colors:
    Black
    Light green
    Orange
    Tangerine
    Triburst finish $729.00

yeh twas a phantom, and there was a black one in the next one as well...
wasn't so much like a traditional 12 string, as the bottom 3 pairs of srings are tuned to the same register not octave...

That guitar looks a lot like the Spicer Mandolin listed in the builder database, made by Mike Spicer out of Canada. Not sure they're still in business. Their web site, still linked from various places around the web, is no longer owned by them and was snapped up long ago by a bulk domain buyer.

Same on a 12 string mate.

Umm, no. He's saying the bottom 3 pairs are like a mando (tuned in unison), unlike a 12-string where the bottom 3 pairs are octaves.

I guess this would be different than the A shaped mandoguitar Gibson was making for awhile right?
    Personally I didn't like those.
