    Default Andrew Hendryx

I was surprised when my search of the Cafe forums did not reveal a single thread named for this great e-mando player, so I'm starting one!

Here is some great stuff from Andrew Hendryx and his band Yarn...

On his custom Don Allain 5-String

    and on his Ryder EM-35

In addition to his work with Yarn he is an accomplished jazz player and also plays a Steve Ryder EM 35 (in the second video). It's difficult to find videos of him playing jazz. There's a short reference to him at Emando under players.

I sure wish Yarn would hit the West Coast. I'd love to see/hear/meet Andrew sometime.

Nice playing. Sort of the Dave Mason of the "little guitar."

I bought copies of his solo discs several years ago, and he was good enough to throw in copies of some Andrew Hendryx Ensemble shows as well. Good stuff, he's a great player.

Earlier this summer my band opened up for Yarn and the whole band were alot of fun to habg out with. Andrew was late getting to the gig, but we still had about 10 minutes to talk mando geek stuff. We swapped acoustic mandolins (his acoustic is a Duff) and picked a bit. He then pulled out his 5 string emando, I believe it was the Allain, and told me that it was his current favorite instrument. Before my band went on stage Andrew had proven himself to be a classy guy, after my band played Andrew proved himself to be one helluva picker.

Charlie; Thank you so much for the info!
Anyone interested in the e-mando MUST go here and listen to the The Andrew Hendryx Band's performance from 31 January 2011 at Kenny's Castaways in NYC.
Brilliant renditions of Voodoo Child, Statesboro Blues & The Thrill is Gone.
    Everything else is awesome also.
Of course, I particularly like the Kashmir-inspired "Metal Jam" - (Andrew, if you're lurking, please let us know about the pedals/gear you used on this awesome track!)

Ed, you can find pictures at least of a recent rig of his at http://andrewhendryx.com/ under the gear link. Looks like a Ross looper, delay modeler from Line 6, Mesa Mark II head (I think,) Polytone combo, volume pedal or two and a wah. My guess is there's an overdrive/distortion pedal there as well, but I'm not sure what it is.

Here is more from Andrew Hendryx and his band Yarn from a performance at Music City Roots on 21 September 2011.
First, 'Annie'. Andrew's excellent e-mando solo starts at 4:43. Enjoy!

And here's 'Along the Way'. Andrew really rips into it starting at about 4:33. Great stuff!

Thanks for posting this. I looked him up and really liked what I heard. I downloaded a Yarn album and may go see them play coming up in a week or so.

Wow. That's just about the best rock e-mando playing I've ever heard. Looked up tour dates and they'll be in DC in January. I plan on catching that show.

I received the two Andrew Hendryx Ensemble CDs last week, and I've basically been listening to them non-stop since getting them.
    Fantastic stuff!
Both CDs are great, but I really love the more 'free form jam' style of 13th Street Repose.
    Highly recommended.

    Hey Folks,
I just added a new gear page to www.andrewhendryx.com. This is basically my current Yarn touring rig. I am working on making a few videos that will show it in more detail. Currently, I'm building a new rig for the Andrew Hendryx Band. This is changing from show to show. I think I am coming close to putting this down on a lyte pedal board.
You can hear last weeks show here:

    Peace,
