Took Cecil out for a spin last night, and it sounds amazing...
A great mandolin, and a great 'dola...just need to get my mind on combining the two...
...and the fanned frets are no problem whatsoever...

I'll post a sound clip when it stops raining...

I don't know if this will help. It is probably much too basic for you, I wrote it years ago when I first became interested in mandola/mandolins. Please excuse any mistakes, my music theory is not too good.

Hey, I know wet coast weather patterns, living here on Vancouver Island. It's not going to stop raining until May. Post the damn audio.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

    What, Spruce!! No surf music!

That mandola sounds amazing. BTW one approach to 5 string is to treat it like you do, two instruments. Tiny Moore showed me also this approach: basically, comp on the bass side and melody or chord-melody on the treble. I guess similar to guitar in that way. No need for full 5-course chords unless that is exactly what you want.

BTW I also started listening the a bit of those Radio Free Olga podcasts. Excellent, fantasic music. I look fwd to getting more into those. I missed visiting when I was out there years ago and I hope to get up there next time I am out there.

That slanted bridge gives me the willies... but that instrument sounds great.

I never dreamed I would ever see and even hold this instrument in person. Wow! What a beautiful 'Dola!

Saw and met Bruce (and Eddie) with the CecilBDemille at the Great 48 in Bakersfield... An amazing instrument. Thank you for letting me drool over it in person!

Just FYI, the sister instrument to "Cecil" is for sale in the Cafe classifieds...
NFI, just a head's up on a fantastic instrument...

Quite a beaut. But I could see how someone unfamiliar with the esoterica of the fan-fret principle might think the bridge is a bit off!
