Thread: Fun to watch

  1. #1

    Default Fun to watch

    Hello, all.

As the Lightness of Being comes upon me with age I thought I'd open a thread for posting things that are just fun, plain and simple; no endorsements, no PR, and absolutely no lecturing on what is, what isn't art.

I just hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Please also feel free to post things that you found fun to watch.

    Cheers,

    Victor

Far from unbearable. Thanks for the cool thread idea.

The first 50 seconds or so of this is Kuwahara's written out cadenza (for solo mandolin, here placed on mandocello) in "Song of Japanese Autumn". Vincent plays this up to the last few bars and then starts to improvise on the harmonic structure.

Vincent is a great player, composer, and a lovely guy.

No mando content, but I like the b***o-rolls Scott Tenant plays at 2:58.

Yes, yes, dear Tamara and Tolya are a kick-in-the-you-know-what with their dazzling performances!

Haven't seen her since she attended the premiere of one of my works last June, but I definitely owe her a call, or even a visit. Sweet lady, fantastic performer.

    Thanks for posting this!

    Cheers,

Nice idea. Great postings so far.
Complex chord voicings seem to be part of this thread's theme...

I rather like this one -- not many mandola/mandocello duets around, and it's a fun piece.

I recently came across this piece of mine on the internet from a couple years ago. Many thanks to Mark Davis of the Providence Mandolin Orchestra for providing them with the parts.

Great thread. I must have seen this on here somewhere before, but either way, it's a fun clip, and it doesn't hurt to put it out there again.

Julien Martineau plays the Hummel Mandolin Concerto. You have to marvel at his virtuosity, not to mention holding that bowlback so adeptly while standing!
