I had Larry build me one back 2006. It's a wonderful mandolin. Larry used to have property in Chilliwack, BC where he spent his winters. He was a neighbor of Michael Heiden. They spent a lot of time...
Cary it's good to see that you are still alive and kicking (not to mention working on and playing mandolins). We are trapped in covid isolation, along with the rest of the country. I hope all is as...
I have Waverlys on three guitars -- two Bourgeois and one Collings. None of them are particularly smooth and easy to turn. I've just learned to live with it.
Very nice. Excellent playing Maurizio.
Try to find a copy of "Mastering Mandolin" by Wayne Fugate. I found it to be an excellent source.
I have been using Snark tuners for years and have found no particular accuracy problems. I purchased a Peterson Strobe tuner about five years ago and rarely use it. In my opinion the Peterson and...
I have two Snarks -- a red and a black. They both work just fine. I've had no problems with either after at least four years. I also have an older Intelli that that is accurate. I'll add that I also...
For those of you who love Apitius mandolins, the good news is that he's back and building after a ten-year break.

Peter Sawchyn is a first-rate Canadian luthier. He builds wonderful guitars and mandolins. His instruments are owned and played by many professional musicians. The Beaver Tail line are flat-topped,...

Another fine video from the people at WAMU. Thanks for this.
Great looking and sounding mandolin, Kieth.
I've played this Irish bouzouki at Blue Dog Guitars in North Vancouver. It sounds real good. It's made by local luthier David Webber. Might be a little above your price range, but you haven't stated...
Went to see Chris and Edgar last night. The Chan Centre at the University of British Columbia is a wonderful venue for such a performance. My wife and I had third row centre seats, which enabled us...

Great video, well produced, fine singing and playing.
Delays seem to be a roll of the dice. I've had many items shipped from the U.S. that arrived within a few days, while some get held up at Canada Customs for weeks. The Customs delays seem random.
I bought a Peterson Strobo Clip. I can't say that I'm in love with it. It's too finicky for my liking. I usually just reach for my Snark, which is a lot handier, as far as I'm concerned.
Cary, you're really getting into this building thing. I've been thinking about it myself, but have no work space. Lame excuse, I guess. One of my pals who has worked with wood and and hand tools all...
Another good one from WAMU.
It's all about chord substitutions. A common "jazzy" way of playing a 12 bar blues is to take a simple G7 - C7 - D7 (1-4-5) progression, and substitute this way, for example: G7-E7- Am7-D7-G7...

Jason, a few years ago I picked up a set of Sennheiser HD 477 phones. I got them at Future Shop for around $100. They are excellent phones for not a lot of money. The 477's don't seem to be around...
