Congratulations on the Lebeda - feel like I have to chip in whenever his name comes up, very happy with my 2001 Special I've been playing for the last twelve years.
I'm interested to hear he's...
Oh Pep! Is a brilliant Australian duo (with varying other members as far as I can tell), that has an exceptional mandolin player and also uses bouzouki. Stationary Blues and Big Strong Man are tracks...
I'm fortunate enough to live in a small city in the UK with a clawhammer banjo player and guitarist with a penchant for old time. We recently recorded together so here's a link if it's of interest to...
As a fellow tutor I think a focus on strumming early on is a great idea; it'll encourage that looseness and more importantly will help with getting some volume out of the mandolin, something I find a...
I'll second that; Primetone's are a great (and much more affordable) back-up alternative to a Blue Chip should you lose one. Anything to avoid the inevitable loan of a flimsy grey dunlop from a well...
My friends still think I'm just playing a satsuma.
Before a small concert recently I noticed a poster on the wall introducing my friend and I as 'a banjo and a mandarin player'. Y'all got off lightly.
Shame they're not stocking the Triangle model...Anyone come across these in the UK?
Simon Mayor's books on Mastering the Mandolin are great, as they also touch on some of the idiosyncrasies of mandolin technique whilst also teaching tunes.
I posted this in another thread but not sure if it's been picked up on, so thought I'd post it anew.
I've recently had to order a new set of Schallers as the old set broke, and therefore have a...
As a general note, if there was the option of adding the exact same plastic spacers from an older set of Schallers to a new would this improve performance, even if not strictly necessary?
(The...
I know this is travelling back in time slightly but wanted to know whether it was common practise to add another plastic spacer in this fashion, or whether it was only advised if problems were being...
Point taken :) Still, I wasn't so curious to learn he had changed but more about his experience of the strings...!
A video was published yesterday by D'Addario strings, which shows that Chris Thile has switched over to EXP from Elixirs.

Merry Christmas! :)
Here's a recent one I did for my band here in the UK.

Just answered my own question - 'The Squirrel Of Possibility'! Should have read the youtube comments...
Sorry to digress here very briefly, but could anyone shed any light on the name if the tune they're playing in this video...?

Thanks for the info Ivan, I may well drop him a line! I don't actually know anything about the original owner of my Lebeda, number 52 - if anyone out there has any leads that'd be great! I...
Another UK player here...My Lebeda Premium Plus was built in 2001; I had a refret done recently and started using a tone gard and it sounds better than ever. I shelled out £1750 for it about seven...
Just wondering whether anyone might have any idea how a Northfield F5 might compare to a Lebeda...?
As a GDAE tuned tenor guitar player I spend the majority of my time playing mandolin, so definitely benefit from the lower sound when switching over. Part of the reason for not playing six string is...
Tenor guitar, tunes GDAE/GDAD and used for gypsy jazz, breton dance, bluegrass and irish/folk.
If there's a high likelihood the pick will enhance my technique, tone and volume then I think $35-$40 is probably the ceiling within my means. Anything higher than that then the ramifications of...
Perhaps when seated, but if you're standing up and the back of the mandolin's resting against your body then it's not vibrating fully; doesn't make much difference how you're holding it.
