The K position was the idea of Bob Applebaum. He tried explaining it to me once. He is a nice guy so you might try emailing him.
I take Skype lessons with Chris Acquavella and can recommend him.
I love collecting mandolin methods. I have the first two volumes of William Place's mandolin method, but can't find the third volume anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might get my...
My instructor has me using my elbow for tremolo and my wrist for everything else. That seems standard among classical circles in Europe. But I have seen other great mandolinists use only this wrist...
I like a really low action and the original action was too high. Trying to adjust the action when the bridge is non adjustable is proving difficult. But the Brekke bridge is too high for the Lyon and...
No in know, but it does he same job as a one piece by allowing the sound to resonate directly to the sound chamber through wood rather than through metal screws. But you are right.
Not sure where to post this so I thought I would post it here. Has anyone tried using a Brekke bridge on a Lyon and Healy? I want the best of both worlds. A one piece bridge which can be adjusted.
Time for a tour of souther California.

I will take some photos tonight of the fret board. The frets are really thin and my assumption is that they are bar frets. I will post tonight. I like the idea of reusing the frets. I will check with...
I have a Lyon and Healy Style C that I am going to have refretted. Does anyone know where I can buy some replacement bar frets? I would like to replace like for like.
I am taking Skype lessons with Chris Acquavella. He has a well thought out curriculum which includes studies taken from different sources. He advised me to purchase the Marilyn Mair book and the...
I love Bluechips, Wolles (modified by heavy sanding) and picks made from Victorian tortoiseshell. These are all expensive, but if they cut down on pick noise - which they all do - then I am willing...
Simple. For classical technique, Marilyn Mair's Complete Mandolinist.
For everything else, Greg Horne's three volumes are incredible thorough.
I have also got my hands on G. Leone's Method from...
I have also experimented and have found that different picks work well on different mandolins. I too have a number of tortoiseshell plectrums made by a very reputable individual who buys up old...
Carlo Aonzo included this piece in his book on music from a region in Switzerland beginning with T that has been influenced by the Italian mandolin tradition. Can't remember the name of the region....
Can I suggest that if you are interested in learning classical technique then you should take lessons from someone who focuses on classical mandolin. I have had three mandolin teachers over the last...
Have you considered Skype lessons with Rich?
Very cool. Thank you for posting.
Angelo Mannello family is still very proud of his achievements. They live in LA. One had a chance to handle the Met model a few years back. Plays well apparently.
I am a huge fan of the Avi Avital Bach album. A masterpiece. In fact, I almost gave up buying the Mandolin Magazine because of their review of this album. Although the review was generally positive,...
My teacher, Chris Acquavella, suggests using Marilyn Mair's method, The Complete Mandolinist, and vol. 1 of R. Calace's Method reissued recently by Mike Marshall and Caterina Lictenberg.
Thank you for the instructions Bratsche.
I tabbed this out so that a mandolin orchestra could play it as an ensemble piece.
Enjoy.
I do not mind sharing it. But how do I do that?
