Good suggestions, thank you. I checked their web site (not there) and emailed them, maybe they'll respond. I also found 3 of the Adamas light (8787) on Amazon, but it's not clear if they exist or...

I ran out of my stash of Adamas 8080 and lo and behold, i can't find them anymore. Egads! Must be out of production.
What can you recommend for me to string my Ovation mandolin with?
Rather...
I think it's permissible to post a brief unsolicited plug for one of our own - Ken Sager has just released a very nice CD of originals and traditional fiddle tunes, which he plays flawlessly on...
Very sorry to hear this. I hope the treatment is successful.

Jim, they sounded very full. The mandolins carried the melody in tremolo (sometimes double-stop tremolo). Almost everything else was strummed. I was surprised to see the double-bass (expecting a...

One of the reasons i thought this was cool is i was wondering if it wasn't this kind of "mandolin ensemble" that caused the mandolin craze in the US in the early 20th century.
I saw these guys yesterday at Brookfield Zoo (IL - USA).

I heard that it's very important to use the right kind of hammer. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Answering my own question...
Where is the CD available?
Funny you should mention...

For a Windows-based client, my recommendation is utorrent (micro-torrent). Torrents are very good for downloading big files. Just leave your computer on. It's surprisingly fast when other people are...
Agreed. I'm a beginner, and the only mandolin lessons i've had were from Don. I have material recorded from those lessons that i'll probably never finish learning my whole life, but amazingly,...
Another good one is Transcribe. There's been plenty of discussions about which is best... mostly personal opinion. Amazing Slowdowner, easier to use, Transcriber has interesting extra features. Both...
I bought a batch of singles for the unwound string gauges i use (11 and 15), from justrings.com. They're cheap, and it's nice to have them on hand when a string breaks. They sell ball and loop-end.
The answer to all your questions is yes.
It happens sometimes. Probably a bad string.
I found a torrent for GASB, June 13 1974, Berkeley, CA
It doesn't seem to be well seeded right now, though. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
[edit: it actually...
Looking good, Paul! Yellow does you good.
Well, the talk gets ugly... things mostly go on undisturbed.
When the player's and the collector's worlds collide, things get ugly.
Ironically, one of my mandolins cost about 275, and the other one cost me about 675... dollars! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I think this is the point where usually someone will jump in and compare the price of high-cost mandolins favorably to bass boats. Then someone else will jump in and mention that high-end violins go...
We used to have a saying at the session i used to go to: "Friends don't let friends play spoons". http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
