San Francisco Festival of the Mandolins

San Francisco, Calif. — In its seventh year, the San Francisco Festival of the Mandolins continues to offer the widest spectrum of mandolin music available in California. 2007 marks an expansion making it a week long festival held April 16-22, 2007.

Three theme-based concerts will be held in addition to the culminating "Grand Day of Mandolins" scheduled at the Croatian American Cultural Center on Sunday, April 22.

Workshops with all performers, "Bring Your Own Mandolin" Orchestra, good food, open mic and dancing. Doors open at 11:00 a.m.. Everyone is welcome to play in a BYO Mandolin Orchestra at noon. There will be workshops by the performers from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The concert is at 3:00 p.m. Ethnic food and drink will be served from 1:00 p.m. $18 admission, ($2 off with mandolin in hand). Children free. Jamming is encouraged.

This is a rare chance for mandolin players from classical to bluegrass to jazz to share traditions and learn from masters and from each other. It is also an opportunity for those interested in mandolin music to see its broad use and enjoy the music as performed by some of the most outstanding musicians today.
