London — Chris Thile has received a nomination for Musician of the Year by the 2007 BBC Folk Awards. Other nominees include music legends John McCusker, Martin Simpson and Dave Swarbrick.

Winners will be announced and presented at the BBC Folk Awards 2007, held at The Brewery in London on Monday, February 5, 2007. Thile is scheduled to perform at the event.

The BBC Folk Awards got their start in 1999 as a way of celebrating the past year's achievements in the folk music world. It was seen as an opportunity to get artists and folk industry pundits in the UK to celebrate the achievements of the folk music performers and industry. It was also seen as a chance to showcase to the mainstream media the artists and recordings that the people who work in folk music have been particularly proud of during the year.

The awards are voted for by a panel of around 150 UK broadcasters, folk journalists, festival organizers, agents, promoters; people whose job it is to make judgement of one sort or another about folk music during their daily work.
