Boss ME 70 multi effects pedal: comments for electric & acoustic?

Anyone using this and if so how useful is it for a mandolin?
Thinking of it instead of buying all the individual pedals!
Used for 200$

What effects are you planning to use, and how often? I've always found that multieffects are "ok" for the occasional effect or as a backup, but if it's major part of your tone/sound, it might be better to get individual boxes. But, if you're mainly going for the Volume pedal & tuner with the occasional Flange, it might be a good idea.

I should add though, BOSS stuff is pretty dependable, and lots of people use/love em'.

got a list of the types of EFX they include on those ?
what ones attracted you most?

I got a Yamaha AG multiEFX pedalboard , those offer acoustic body sounds as if mic-ing ,
various types and near/far,[ is at least what they are striving for]..
though the signal is an under bridge piezo.
and a DG stomp.. it is an either or, EFX loop out of my Roland AC60.

though it works fine with a sub mixer to blend both back in , together .

I want to play around with effects to see what I would like without investing too much.
I thought the me70 at $185 would be a reasonable entry, discovery and experimental unit.
This is my strategy not knowing too much about pedals!
Any comments are welcome. I have piezo, schertler and electric humbuckers to pay and experiment with.

I mentioned the Line 6 only because Jeff Bird uses it and IMO his mandolin effects are primo.

I'm a single pedal guy all the way (wah --> distortion --> fuzz --> phaser), but one of the lead guitarists in my band plays through a Boss multi-effects unit (sorry, I don't know which one), and his SG & Ovation A/E mando sound pretty good going through it.

However, FWIW, each individual effect on his board seems to have much less range than my individual pedals.

I want to use it to mildly give me some extended range an sound variety. I play more acoustic jazz and swing snd country blues.
I am not a Hendrix, Led Zep, or black sabbath mando player!
do you think this ME 70 unit would be useful?

Do you know, What do you want for EFX.. can you go audition the hardware in the stores?

I am kind of uncomfortable going to stores and auditioning stuff knowing I will purchase used elsewhere!
I want to be able to soften, provide more sustain, have some delay and maybe what others suggest for both electric and primarily acoustic.

Ian makes a great point. What do you have to lose?
That's the great thing about buying used - If the gear (or instrument) turns out to not work for you, you can usually turn around and sell it for little (or sometimes no) loss.
It's almost like a short-term, inexpensive lease.

Thanks for all your advice. I just went out and purchased it and brought it home to play around with.
So many buttoms to assimilate but seems like lots of fun to play around with.
The unit has hardly been used!

You did the right... I own a BOSS GT-10 which uses the same technique and in my opinion it is very useful for E-mando players as well. Haver fun!
