Eddie, you are a doofus! (there, is that better? haha)
Anyway, you are to blame that I woke up this morning with LEAVING BRITTANY playing in my dreams! I'm gonna rock it when I finally get back to a decent camera!

Hey, we could always resurrect this recent "hot topic" about whether "F" (as in "F-5") stands for "Florentine." At least one poster walked off in disgust. But rather than dropping an "F-bomb," I'd rather enjoy a brief period where the threads are supportive and informative, the language is moderate and (relatively) articulate, and the trolls are quiescent.

Soon enough, someone will start a "Chris Thile is cooler than Ricky Skaggs," or "Gibson mandolins are crummy and over-priced," or "Bill Monroe used a capo, and just wouldn't admit it" thread, and the squabbles will recommence. Or I could just start one about the Dixie Chicks...

Maybe the new board software includes a tool for zapping troublemakers' computers? Send a virus to the IP address that fries the hard drive?

A certain well-known agitator cropped up a couple of days ago, but the IDs he was using, and the threads they were on, have all vanished.

    A) Chris Thile is better than Bill Monroe AND uses a Blue Chip pick.

    B) Bill can't touch Ricky's mullet and should have "passed the torch" to him graciously rather making him pry it from his embalmed hands.

How about... how many mandolin players does it take to change a light bulb........................................?

Seriously I like the way people are treated here and know when to have fun a not take things seriously.

None..... I'm a musician, don't want to take the chance of burning my fingers! Anyway, I'm too busy to change a light bulb, and I don't need no stinkin' light to play this thing!

ahh...I have enough calluses so changing a light bulb is cake!

Maybe we can petition to start a "puppies and rainbows" forum...a safe haven where everyone will agree with us, tell us how informed we are, what great players we are...

I believe the left hand side is the standard direction of travel.
Hereby & forthwith, any instrument with an odd number of strings shall be considered broken. With regard to mix levels, usually the best approach is treating the mandolin the same as a cowbell.

This is surely the point where someone (not me!) lets slip that people who play F mandolins are narcissists driven only by their perceived vision of themselves and whose judgments (such as they are) suffer clouding from their obsession with a couple of pointless, purposeless, acoustic-benefit-free fancy-schmancy fragile twirls in the wood - when all they ought to do is buy a nice A and get the same sound for less money and none of the fragility.

But to do so would be inflammatory, and that's not nice in the new, kind, all-is-right-with-the-world, benign Cafe as extolled by the OP.

Do all A style oval hole players plant their pinkies when using a capo or refuse to pay more than $0.45 for a pick to play chop chords at an old timey jam?

I would guess that 80% of the mandolins sold today are for "other than bluegrass" uses and that about the same percentage of folks on the list are non bluegrassers.......and that's fine with me...

    I'm so mellow...................
