Dayton mandolin

I was poking around on *bay, and ran across a "Dayton Style B" mando from 1920:

It's kind of interesting looking, is clearly a well built quality instrument, and reminds me a lot of Gibson oval holes of the same vintage.

I don't remember seeing Dayton mandolins discussed on the Cafe, and an archive search turned up little. Even though the instrument on *bay appears to have been well played, I'm assuming that these must not have been anything to write home about or everyone would be hunting for them instead of Gibsons.

Anyone know what the story is on Dayton mandolins?

Most of the info is in the description on the eBay posting. It is a double-walled se5tup similar to a built-in Virzi. I have never played one but I have seen pics of a few.

I've seen precious few Daytons go by on the ebay but they always turn heads. If my memory serves me well, the BiN price looks pretty attractive. The curve in the neck doesn't look so good. No sign of an adjustable truss rod. Seems like someone ought to make the plunge at that price. I would expect Mike E to have the experienced word on this.
