Seems to me the MT is merely an MT-2 with an engleman top vs. red spruce top, a satin finish, more spartan binding, and possibly less figured wood. Other than these differences (have I missed any?) is the MT compromised in some other way compared with the MT-2?

I was a Charlie's Guitar Shop in Dallas a month ago. I got to A/B an MF, MT, & MT2. No comparison to the MT2, it blew them away.

    Doug,
You like the MT better than the MF and MT2? Did you compare it to anything else?

I spent a day at Acoustic Music Works playing various Collings, and I would agree that a particular MT was much better than the rest of the Collings, except for a MT2V. It is a great value for the money.

A MT2 has a smoother sound, as they both have different tops. Engelman opens up quickers but do not have drive that opened up Ad top on a MT2 has. My MF5 five sounds better then the MF5 V I have played, but in time I am sure they will be better. MT are great perfect instint please, but give a MT2 time and it will be the next step up.

I tried 2 MF's, an MT, and the MT2. The MF's & MT were very simular to each other. The MT2 had a lot more clarity, resonance, and complexity of tone than the other two. These were the only mandolins in the shop that day. There were some real killer guitars though.
