Not a builder just curious?

I don't know much about the science behind mandolins, but
get these foolish notions from time to time, and wonder if
Gibson or someone has ever done any experimentation, likely
not if they know the science. But I wonder about drilling
little holes in a mandolin, making one out of graphite, and other unconventional methods of "breaking in"? Does anyone know if weird things like this are being done or have been?

Talk to Dave Cohen
He's a mando scientist, especially in acoustics and has done a number of experiments with instruments. He also is in contact with others of the same bent.
