This has been around since last September but a little difficult to get hold of. Harmonious Wail's "new" Gypsy Swing CD is a trip! Mid Continent now has it in stock ...

18 cuts, 76 minutes of Gypsy Jazz on Mandolin and Guitar in an outrageous fun to listen to and be AMAZED. A mandolin (at least in Sims Delaney-Potoff's hands) works in an acoustic Jazz context. This feels a little more Bistro and Musette than most Gypsy Jazz CD's I've heard and ... well the mando just swings on all 8 cylinders. Fun to boogey to ...

    Anyone else heard this one?

I've heard a few of the mp3's posted in the mp3 section of the cafe, and they rock. I'd love to be able to play like that... but most of my playing has been in a straight bluegrass context so I need to learn quite a bit before I'll be anywhere close... Great mandolin playing!

This has become my own personal model for mando. I'm currently trying to transcribe Sims's solo on Douce Ambience (from the mp3 page). #Transcribing and PLAYING are very different things, but it's a start...

    Harmonious Wail is outrageously good!

You might have to post that at some point... I've tried it to and can kinda get the very very beggining (maybe first two bars or so)

I just had my first lesson with Sims yesterday afternoon! He's a great guy, and we really click as teacher-student. I'm nowhere near at the level most of you people are (quite the beginner still) but I'm struggling with some technique changes, and Sims was immediately helpful with that.

Seeing the Wail play live is fantastic! I can't keep my feet from moving. A coworker has sat in on bass with the Wail too.

I'm so lucky to live in this town. And people actually *complain* on the local music message boards about how bad the Madison music scene is.

Gypsy Swing is my current absolute favorite CD and the Wail my favorite group. Wonderful stuff.

I have this CD for a few months now, and it still remains very exiting. The mando work is superb, I really like the bass lines, and the singer..... pfew! she has a sexy voice!
