Thread: Derrington & Harvey era Gibsons

Default Derrington & Harvey era Gibsons

I’ve read a lot of positive things about these two eras of Gibson’s mandolin renaissance. Are there any marked differences in tone or appearance of mandolins produced under Charlie Derrington or Dave Harvey?

I've played three (3) Derrington F5 models, and there was a marked difference in tone and appearance. So I'm sure there are marked differences between Derrington and Harvey. There are marked differences in tone and appearance in the 1922-1924 Gibson Loar signed mandolins. John Reischman says his 1924 Loar sounds different than most other Loar signed models. Heck, there are marked differences in tone and appearance in all mandolin makers. Just my opinion.
