    Default Easy strap lock

    Hey All,

The strap has popped off the back of my mandolin enough times to make me worry about it while I am playing. I hate thinking about it, and hate the thought of my nice mandolin smashing to the ground.

I saw some cheap little grommets for sale as guitar "strap blocks", so I bought a pack.
They are only $3 for a pack of them.
They slip over the end of the tail pin, and hold the strap on.
They worked on my guitars perfectly, and it works surprisingly well on my mandolin.
The strap has no way to pop off unless the pin shoots out.

Just offering them as a suggestion for those who want to secure the tail end of the mandolin to your strap. I don't have to think about it now.
You can find them at all the online sources of music things.
    Just search "Guitar Strap Blocks"

I knew some guys who would use Grolsch bottle seals. Did I spell that right? So why does yours pop off? A worn Hole on the leather? The way you hold and play? Something else? I have some of the plastic retainers that are two-piece and twist to lock on the endpin. No idea what they were called here is the pack of 100 Grolsch type of seals for beer bottles, probably more fun to buy some beer and drink it to save the seal? I have not tried them on a mandolin. The endpin seems smaller on my Mandos than on my guitars. I made my own leather strap and made the hole very snug. I wouldn't use the guitar ones I have on a mandolin anyway because they are hard plastic and the aesthetic just isn't correct yours in the pic look pretty good on there! Where did you get them?

I used to watch Jonny Cash take that D45? Martin and give it a swing toward his back. It would make me cringe. I was taught to NEVER trust the strap, strap lock or not. If an instrument is around my neck and I'm standing al least none hand is on the instrument. This policy has saved a couple good instrument for me, and who knows how many overall

A bootlace around under the tailpiece and through a strap hole is great insurance!!

Yes, my strap is softer leather and the hole is just getting a bit open.
I love the strap, so this is a good compromise.
I should probably do the tie to the tailpiece too.

They are available just about everywhere.

Still looking for bottles of Grolsch in the U.K. but they only seem to sell it in cans nowadays.

Those buttonhole straps can get worn, which is why mine stay on. You can lay them to the side in a case. The best strap for security is my Bailey, which uses one wrap of a bootlace thickness leather loop with a very tight fit leather disk you cinch tight. It's not going anywhere. I used the Dunlop plastic disks for a long time too, but they are clunky. For sure any of them will give you piece of mind, but like has been said before, handle your mandolin with care.

Plastic bread ties also work in a pinch and come in a variety of colors

    Exclamation Re: Easy strap lock

for my soft leather strap*, where it was too easy to slip off, I sewed across the slit to close it up just enough so it fits the

(neck button on Mix A5) better ..
other end a Jack-button, is OK .. and cord plugged in leaves it quite secure..

I've been using rubber "grommets" for years only I call 'em washers. Works like a charm.
