I had a Morgan Monroe years ago and it was very nice for the price. I haven't played one recently, so can't say much about them. But, I will say that for the price I don't think the least expensive Eastman A style can be beat. It's a killer.

Several years ago a local store had one that was all mahogany, only mandolin I've seen that was. It was no banjo killer but it had a pretty and unique sound. A friend called wanting to know what mandolin he should buy for his grandson that wanted to learn to play. I told him to go buy that Bean Blossum so I wouldn't have to which he did so now I need one more mandolin lol
