Thread: Introducing myself

    Default Introducing myself

Hi I'd like to introduce myself and also to say thank you to the fantastic people that contribute on this forum. You have helped me enormously. I have been lurking around here for years but never posted anything before.

I first became interested in instrument making 6 years ago and made a few rather experimental banjos, I had no idea what I was doing and none of them played very well or looked very good but I was none the less hooked. So I found somewhere I could study instrument making (Glasgow, Scotland) and moved there, after 4 year at college learning as much as I could from the people there I have now in the last year set up my own workshop which I share with a guitar maker.

While in college I made a couple of guitars and Irish bouzoukis, but for the last 3 years I have mostly been concentrating on carved top mandolins. I have just finished my first F5, this was a huge challenge for me. And again I am so grateful that this place exists and I had somewhere to look for answers to my many questions!
I'll share some photo with you all of the F5 and a picture of my first banjo (not me in the photo)!

Nice F-5 for sure so congratulations on that! Be interested to hear what kind of instrument building school you found in Scotland - was it part time or full time situation?
