Default Sierra Hull: Orchestra concerts in the Pacific Northwest

(This got no attention in Classical, so cross-posting it here!)

Ofer Ben-Amots is an israeli-American composer living in Colorado, whose work evidently draws on the klezmer and bluegrass traditions.

Sierra Hull will perform three of his compositions with orchestras in two upcoming concerts in the Pacific Northwest.

First, in Portland on Mar. 31 with the Portland Chamber Orchestra, she'll play in his Concertino for Clarinet & Mandolin, along with something called "Intermezzo: Klezmer Meets Bluegrass":

Then in Walla Walla on Apr. 9, it's the Concertino again, along with Ben-Amots' "Bluegrass Suite," with the Walla Walla Symphony:

Sadly, I don't expect I can make it to either of these concerts but I'm very intrigued.

Related Sierra note: was looking over Instagram this morning and on Sierra's live feed there was a shot of all her stage instruments. Spotted an Austin Clark octave which surprised me. Happen to have his text # as he's originally from Lawrence, KS where his parents still live (who I see every Saturday through the summer at the Farmer's Market, a lovely elderly couple) so inquired. He tells me she picked it up a few weeks ago and is using it on tour. Pretty exciting for a builder to have a musician of her caliber playing one of your creations.

I visited Austin Clark's shop when I was in Boise last. All of his instruments were superb! The octave mandolins especially.

Wish I could get to one of those shows, but too far to travel for me.

Thanks for the heads-up! And thanks Scott for the information about Austin being a Lawrence native, I did not know that. I know where i will be at the end of March.

A little far for me but great when we get great artists up in this neck of the woods.

Well, check out her tour schedule; she's also touring with a 4-piece band and has some more conventional Sierra shows coming up in Seattle and Mount Vernon, among other places.

Weather permitting, I'm hoping to see her next week in tiny Chatfield, MN at their first rate Center for the Arts.

Another photo grabbed from Instagram of her current tour instrument line-up. Impressive collection.

    Weber mandola in the center?

There's a video clip on her Instagram of her playing a very good-sounding Gibson H1 from '26 or '27.

I believe Mike Marshall, Joe K Walsh, and John Mailander among others also play Austin's OMs.

What's the 5 string? Guessing a Rono baritone, but would love confirmation.

What a dream collection of instruments.

In addition, the Oregon Mandolin Orchestra's chamber ensemble will perform in a "prelude concert," playing in the venue lobby before the Portland Chamber Orchestra and Sierra Hull take the stage.

I saw her play all those (except the baritone), last night in Chicago. The Clark sounded wonderful. She had it in some strange tuning I could not figure out, and capo'd at the first fret for one of the tunes. Looking forward to her new recording.
