a) I'm assuming that one of the standard guitar sizes won't fit. If somebody has an example to the contrary, let me know!
b) Has anybody tried other ways of keeping it away from the body while still wearing a strap and sitting?

I find that standing is the same as playing a guitar; not much luck in keeping it away from the body. Seated I use a kind of classical guitar approach to holding mine...seems to lessen the amount of the back of the instrument that comes into contact with my belly...er, body.
