Thread: Mandolin Loopers

    Default Mandolin Loopers

I started on guitar as a kid and picked up the mandolin a few years back. During practice time with my looper pedal, I've been working on different ways to meld mandolin with guitar. A while back my son suggested I record the sessions, which was the initial impetus behind this.

I've tried to keep the focus on playing rather than recording, so these are done with a Zoom H4 in the middle of the room using it's built-in mics. All I do is press record and it gets what it gets.

These are basically rough sketches of ideas with some good and bad. Sharing if anyone else is interested. I switch between an acoustic mandolin, 5-string electric, a double-extended range tenor, P-bass and various Les Paul and Stratocater guitars.

    2 acoustic mandos:

Thanks - I find I'm tapping my foot to that one as well.

How did you get embed code to work? I tried multiple times and ways and nada.

I think the problem was because of the YouTube short-version URL "youtu.be" link (note the "dot" inbetween the "youtu" and the "be"). As far as I know, those official YouTube shortened URLs work in regular links, but for some reason they don't seem to want to embed.

What I did, was to copy/paste that shortened link into the address bar of a new tab in my browser, hit the Enter key, which somehow automagically changed the short URL into a more normal slightly-longer URL with the full "youtube.com" spelled out. Then I selected that longer URL and copied that onto the clipboard, then I went back to the MandolinCafe reply editor tab and clicked the little 'filmstrip' icon and pasted in that new longer URL. That seems to work, at least in my browser.

    Experimenting:

Test 1 - using filmstrip icon to paste the shortened "youtu.be" link:

I'm not seeing anything above, so test 1 doesn't work. On to the next test...

Test 2 - using filmstrip icon to paste the long full-length URL:

Test 3 - using the little red YouTube icon (*not* the filmstrip this time) to paste *only* the code part of the YouTube address, the part that follows the v=, so for this particular video I'm pasting just this part: JQcTDxG-CBM

At least in my browser, test 3 shows as a smaller version of test 2.
