'23 Gibson A-4 at Gruhn's
I finally got to Gruhn's today. Great store. Spent about an hour sampling various mandolins. The stand out, to me was a '23 snakehead A-4. Kinda pricey, but outstanding in nearly every way. Just wondered if any one has tried it out. NFI. Also, I got a copy of Graham MacDonald's book on mandolin history. Looking forward to diving into that.

I love A-4 snakeheads. I wish I had one but I do have a copy of one that more than suffices FWIW. $6500 is a "reasonable" price for one of these at one of the prominent vintage dealers. Some are asking more than that.

Yeah, it's more than I need to spend for something just because I want it. I've played lots of A-4's, but this one was special. It was really fun to spend some time in Gruhn's and Carter's. The Gilchrists were fantastic.
