Carving map for A-model mando
Anybody know of a carving map for A-model mandolin back/top boards? I've done tons of searches and read many threads but didn't find anything. I'm just looking for a map with the different thickness regions that I can mark on my board. Thanks!

Re: Carving map for A-model mando
They are the same as for an F-model. The Stew-Mac A-model plans also have graduations listed. Really any plans will have graduations listed. If you're building an instrument, you really should have a set of plans, whether you're building from a kit or from scratch. There are just too many things that can render an instrument unplayable if you ignore them, and using proper plans will help you avoid building a well-built mandolin which simply can't be strung up or can't be set up.
That being said, you can look at Chris Baird's instructions for his Arches kits and get a very nice arching map, available at his Web site: http://www.archesmandolin.com/shop/a5-mandolin-kit/
Not going to hotlink the manual, but if you scroll down past the pretty pictures of his nice work, you can download the graduation maps by going to the "Mandolin Construction Manual".

Nick here's some numbers from the one and only Loar A model . I believe I got them from our own Bruce 'Spruce' Harvie.
Hope there's something here that can help !!

I believe both of those two maps of the Griffith Loar A5 were originally made by the late John Sullivan of Portland, Oregon; a great builder missed by many.
