Default Tool recommendations: vise and fiber optic scope

    Hi all,

I'd like your recommendations on the two aforementioned tools:

    1. Soft jawed vise

Initially, I'll use it when I install K&K twin internals in three instruments. I'd like to be able to firmly grip the neck at the nut and be able to rotate the instrument as needed.

    2. fiber optic inspection scope with the following features:

    a. semi-flexible body (bendable, but stays bent so you don't need to manually hold the lens in position

    b. lens head small enough to fit through endpin hole or f hole.

    c. built-in light

    d. variable focus

    e. USB

Also, initially for use installing the K&Ks.

I've wanted one of these for a long time, primarily for inspecting race motorcycle engine internals without requiring disassembly.

Any suggestions re. either or both tools gratefully accepted.

    Thanks,

A pattern makers vice is what I use, very versatile and will hold odd shapes. Line the jaws with 1/4" thick cork.

Here is a picture with the vice from a recently completed Vega tenor banjo renovation.
