I've had the great fortune of trying out many mandolins over the years. Many modern makers and a bunch of Loars. If I just select my favorites from vintage Gibsons, I'd pick Loars from Darryl Wolfe, f5loar and one nearby. Those three have been inspiring.

The L. Loar signed Griffith A5 is my alltime favorite that I have played.

Really my heart has been set on someday owning one of Steve Sorensen's works of shear art like this beauty...
Steve's attention to detail and craftsmanship has something that I have always admired greatly. So while there are other mandolins that I could put in the position of a treasured acquisition there is but one that comes to immediate mind for me that is consistent and ever present. It's not a particular model although I offer this image as one that would certainly fit the bill, but there would be any number of his works that I'd proudly treasure.
Blessings,
Kip...
If you think you can or think you can't... you're likely right!
Eastman MD515, amid many guitars and a dulcimer.
My Red Valley AM. It was made with my choice of wood and sounds great. It arrived set up perfectly.
a friends Lloyd Laplant F5 is by far my favorite, followed by Gibson Sam bush, 2003 Silver Angel F, then my 25 A jr.
