    Default Strumming patterns

    Hello,

I have recently returned to playing mandolin and am taking lessons. I have always wanted to play, but real life has gotten in the way, mostly because my real passion has been writing poetry. Anyways, I have found a time in my life where I can balance the two. The reason why I am posting is that I want to start playing with other people. However, most people that I have a chance with playing aren't really into bluegrass as much as I am. What I am looking for is some advice on strumming patterns for folk or rock. Stuff that I can work on slowly and build up to speed.i already know about chordie and have downloaded some tab, however I like to play "in the background" when hanging out with others. Does anyone know of a source of strumming patterns I can work on? Thank you in advance.

Maybe John McGann's "Rhythm Tune Up" video would help...

You could try Bob Grant's "Rocking Mandolin" book- plenty of ideas in it.
