new they were about $330~340, I think, sold w/o case.

no risk in sticking it in a closet, its paid for.

made a try at selling at cost my improved FM61, I put a new set of pickup, set of Pots and a better jack , and a new plate too, case, and wanting a couple bucks for a few days hand labor .

guess all will be eager for my estate sale.

... like burglary for the patient.

Ok. Thanks for that hearty round of indifference. (Except you, Mandroid).

only been a couple days, and it does require scrolling down to the sub basement to get here.

FWIW I would be surprised if they go the way of the US Fender mandocasters, in value.
C flop can be reduced with a string the size of bottom E guitar string , about a .050 or so.
I found the korea Jack weak , solder in a switchcraft one
    in it's place.

Tiny Moore [and Jethro Burns] on "back to back" CD can inspire you as to what his 5 string can play..
and Billy-Jack Wills [bob's brother, in Sacramento, not Texas]
Tiny wrote a lot of BJW's arrangements. 2 CD's in print.

I used to have one, then sold it early this year to a buddy who was looking for an e-mando, since mine never came out of the case after I got my Schwab. #

The idea of a -60e becoming a "collector's piece 20 years down the road" strikes me as extremely implausible. #But who knows? # The Stray Cats did a lot (for a while) to enhance the collectability of Gretsch guitars, as Kurt Cobain did for Fender Jaguars and Mustangs. #

Maybe somebody will "break" the -60E and they will be "the next big thing." #But I personally wouldn't hold my breath.

Well, y'know... being a guitar player for much longer and a Gretsch advocate - the Stray Cats (well, Setzer) only pointed out that they were great guitars - I'm very loyal to their old/new axes because they do something some other guitars can't. Great... GREAT instruments.

The 5-string Fender is a... well... frustrating piece of mandolin history. I went up to a "52" on the bottom and it still intonated badly, was floppy, and drove me nuts. I wanted to LOVE that instrument, because the tone was really OK. It didn't help, I sold it to a store for an 'ok' amount for a Telecaster, and they had two others already (Rumbleseat in Ithaca, pretty reputable store).

If someone could find a cure for that darn floppy 'c' I would buy another one and play the snot out of it - I really dig the asthetics, price point, and what not. It's not a Gretsch though, because the quality isn't there in comparison (or price-point, for that matter... I think the Gretsches are worth every penny).

Gretsch has been off-shore for quite some time, but y'know... I actually like Japanese guitars <ducks>

Back in my "metal days", I had a Japanese Jackson Kelly (think Marty Friedman from Megadeth) - and I would have put that against any American metal axe. They are relatively coveted guitars in that scene, and Jackson moved their facilities because those years (early 90s) saw a drop in US sales due to the quality and set up of the off shores ones.

Some Gretsch-o-Holics also swear by the post-Fender buyout Japanese instruments, stating that they are better constructed than hordes of the old US made instruments. Not sure I buy that, but the price point and the recreations make me smile. I have a 1997 Malcolm Young Duo-Jet Firebird with an added Bigsby and pickguard... If only someone would make a mandolin like it... Hmmm...

Ugh... Gotta run... MAS is attacking me again!
