    Default Tuners for Kentucky KM-140

Has anyone replaced tuners on a Kentucky KM-140 Mandolin (A-Style). I haven't been able to get the specs from Saga. Thanks for any help!

Not a KM-140 but I did replace the tuners on a Chinese KM-340S and used a set of Gotoh A style tuners. They dropped right in and work perfectly. Hopefully helpful.

You have to be careful. Saga used an odd sized tuner spacing on the 150. I don't know if that extends to the other lower numbered models. Get a metric ruler and try to measure center of string post to center of string post. What is that measurement? If it isn't 23.0 mm then it's going to take some looking for tuners.

Those tuners should be standard spacing. Measure from post center to post center. It should be about 7/8 in. If so that's standard spacing. 99% of modern a styles are. You can order about any standard a style tuners. I have a couple of Rovers (another Saga brand) and I have Golden Gates on one and Rubners on the other. Both standard spacing. Both fit perfectly.

Before we make any assumptions on inexpensive Saga models read this thread.

Unless something has changed the KM-140 appears to have the same funky tuners that the KM-150 has.

You need to measure post center to post center with a metric ruler and see if they measure 23mm

peg holes have become be quite similar.. though screw holes may differ

Stew mac posts their offering's measurements, like post 3,
to see how to measure yours for comparison

My Leo pocket mandolin uses the same low cost tuners as in 6th post picture,
they've been OK for 35 years..

So you may just have aesthetics issues.. not functional ones..

Saga was using odd sized (not 23mm) spaced tuners on the 150. There are pictures of 140's with that same spacing. If somebody can simply measure post to post they'll know the spacing is standard. To assume they are knowing what is already known is a real crap shoot.

plugging and re drilling the peg head holes is a bit of a PITA , & luthier job,

Often a bit of lube and some wearing in is adequate to make whats on there work better..

Do the OE tuners not operate smoothly?
