Just starting to consider a move to the Central or Northern Oregon coast (Florence to Seaside). Anyone know if there are BG groups/jams around?
I know the coast has a still-thriving live music scene, wondering if that extends to pickers as well.

I live in Eugene about 50 miles from Florence. There is definitely a pickin scene in this area. Not sure about Florence, but there is at least one other Cafe member out there who I have communicated with about getting together. In Newport there is a music store called Red Lotus. He keeps a circle of chairs set up in encouragement of jamming. He may also be a good source for stuff happening out there.
I did find this guide to local live music which lists a couple undefined jams and there is an Irish pub in Newport that apparently features Celtic music.
I'm a little further south, in Brookings -- just moved here last December, and love living on the coast. Y'all come on down!
I'd suggest you check out the website for the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers -- I've found them to be very welcoming, and even though the orientation is old time rather than bluegrass, it's a good way to get connected with musicians who will then lead you to other contacts.

I am definitely looking to play with others more often. I am out on the coast often chasing salmon, halibut, and tuna often between May and September. I get that far south at least twice each fall.

I am moving from Milwaukie/Portland to Independnce, so I will be only an hour and a half from the coast. Plan to spend a lot of time over there, Lincoln City, Newport area, so I will check on this scene regularly. I also play mandocello in OMO and a quartet, so anybody interested in reading through Bach, Mozart, etc. would be fun, but happy to just jam.
Hi, I live in Florence and am always up to jamming, have a large music room and play guitar and mandolin some, (learning) mainly fiddle tunes old time etc.
