I've always wondered how The Gibson on head stock of old F4s and others seemed to be so variable as to exactly where it was on the head stock. So many have it jammed between the tuners when there is ample space above and frankly the ones who have it above, to my eye look 'correct'. Was it that the headstock veneer was inlayed separately and brought to the main luthier workshop because I just can't see why anyone would squeeze it in where it often is. When you consider that Gibson was THE NAME at that time, I find it strange.
