I haven't tried the Savarez strings on my bowl back but I like them on my flat back, I think that they are about as heavy as I would go on a vintage bowl back though.

Am I right in understanding that the G strings are out of tune with each other? In tune when open and out of tune at the 12th fret?

Are you saying you adjusted the bridge to correct the two G strings to "twin"? If so you have some other problem not bridge adjustment.

The difference in tuning between the two G strings makes no sense at all. I would go so far as to say that the laws of physics preclude such a radical difference. I can think of nothing that would cause such a difference. I hope someone else here can help analyze it for you.

Experts- could a twist in the neck cause something like that?

Have to eliminate the obvious and easy first. I had two e strings that I could not get into unison. In tune open, out of tune up the neck, or vv. my choice. It turned out, after a while, I noticed that one of the e strings, though tuned up, was not in its nut slot.

Once I had a piece of electronic equipment cut out while I was working on it. Took me an embarrassingly long time to realize the power had gone out, not just to the equipment, but to the building, the whole neighborhood.

If you twin them open and they ain't twinned noted the slots in the bridge or nut are cut wrong.

    Dear allenhopkins,

You are very right sir. The questions Im asking are partly due to the fact that I have to wait until I can try both. Like a kid before Christmas.

And maybe there is this vintage vs. modern thing. Which isn't just about the mandos.

But still, you are very right.

Exactly. I suspect a much more annoying problem like nut problem or neck twisting problem.

Most probably needs a new nut not so big a problem. I suspect a twisted neck would present more problems than one pair won't twin. Just IMHO
