Welcome back!
You do realise that you’re responding to a thread that’s 13years old?
Just saying.
Or, as Tim O’Brien said during a recent gig - the more you drink the better we sound!
As Tavy said, it’s a known thing. I’m sure there are some makers out there who have perfected the art of having a super-polished inner scroll, but most of the ones I’ve seen are similar to yours.
4 Melodeons will be bloody loud! One is loud enough - 4 is insane! An Octave Mandolin will really struggle to cut through the mix there - OMs occupy the same kind of sonic space as guitars, and...
If it sounds as good as it looks, then you've picked a really nice instrument!
Hi there, sorry I can't help with your question. However, you might possibly get a few responses if you repost it in the "Looking for Information about Mandolins" part of the forum, rather than in...
Really good video! Interesting to see different people’s takes on the same tune.
Lonesome Town by Ricky Nelson uses exactly the same sequence (albeit in a different key). It crops up in a fair number of songs.
Allianz (correct spelling) Musical Insurance are a proper musical instrument insurance company based in the UK. Others may well exist, but I’m only aware of Allianz. Of course, do check your home...
Hi Addamr - that’s interesting. My wife uses a Blue Chip CT55, and I’ve got a Hense Happy Turtle 1.4 Casein pick that I bought a couple of years ago, but don’t really use. I’ve tried both picks...
Kasahara - that’s a beautiful looking mandolin!
Hi there,
I'm not from the US, but I do know that renowned builder Audey Ratliff is left-handed, so I'm guessing that he'd be a pretty good place to start your search. To be fair, I'm sure that...
Hubrad - looking forward to seeing it soon! Enjoy!
Saw Sierra Hull and Justin Moses at the The Live Room in Saltaire (UK) on Sunday night. Stellar playing from both of them - simply stunning. I knew that she was a prodigiously gifted mandolin...
Hi Dagger - those JJ Ryan mandolins look and sound very nice in the videos. Never heard of them before, so thanks for mentioning them.
Sorry I can’t help, Xavier. All I know is that they’re made by a father and son team in Poland. They sound good in the various video clips I’ve seen, but I’ve never seen or heard one in person. I...
Great playing and a great sounding mandolin!
Unitunes are great. Got one each for my guitar and mandolin. Be careful when clipping onto, or removing from, the headstock as they have quite a “bite”. That aside, they’re great tuners.
I’ve never played one of their mandolas, but did check out a couple of Pilgrim mandolins in a store a few years back. Definitely the budget end of the market.
That’s a fantastic instrument to begin your mandolin journey!
Nice song, and some really pretty vocal harmonies.
After a couple of broken Snarks, and another Snark where the plastic became really sticky, I got a TC Polytune about 3 years ago. I now use that for guitar, but have a TC Unitune for mandolin. Both...
Hi Dr Lee - welcome to the Cafe!
Some of the Kentucky’s have radiused boards, but you need to check the specs for each one, as some are flat.
