Gail is still doing repair work, and has indicated that she will resume building soon.
They (supposedly Sweetwater)
were offering them directly to me. I failed to take advantage of their generous offer.
Thanks for the replies!
Gibsons literature of the time specified birch as the back/side wood.
On the tuners, those you have are decent. They do make a bright nickel which IMHO would look better.
Personally, I'd spend the money an install James tailpiece. If that is out of the budget, go with...
Call Greg Boyd. He dealt with the OME folks directly, I believe.
Looking for recommendations for a luthier to revoice a 60s Gibson F5. I know Randy Wood is considered one of the best. Any other suggestions?
TIA,
Charles
"The question may not necessarily be "is my mandolin too quiet" but sometimes "are the musicians in a jam session well behaved enough to enable others to participate". That is exactly the issue here....
I just received an email from someone wanting to sell a " fondy moisten Ibanez mandolin guitar number 805". Does anyone have a clue what this email is about?
Looking for contact info Thomas "Skip" Kelly, the mandolin builder out of Thomasville NC.
Please send me a private PM or email to Charles: 1939d18@gmail.com
Thanks!
Been getting a lot of Reverb scams. one thats popping up recently is "I'll send you a cashiers check and have someone pick up the instrument". Don't do it!
The cashiers check is almost always fake....
Not the "z" on the label. The A2 and the A2Z are very different mandolins, with different market prices. Snakeheads sell for more as they usually sound stronger than most A2s, and the snakehead neck...
This is the same model I play, but it is fitted with the previous generation of tuners with square end plates. Mine is also stamped A2-. Note the wide white sound hole rosette, which is from the...
Hi Js,
It looks to me like a copy of a Gibson fixed bridge used until 1921 or so. All bridges were stamped with the patent date. Is this bridge stamped?
Gibsons did not use an adjustable truss...
I probably have a bushing for you. Please let me know if you still need one.
Best regards
Charles

I'm looking to compile a list of serial numbers of mandolins built by John Hutto. Here's what I have so far:
1992 85399 #77
1983 85328 #52
1997 85438 #126
1998 85443 #120

I have a 1936 National mandolin, the one with the metal triangular body. It is 15 inches wide. Does anyone have a line on a case to fit this?
Thanks
Charles
Hi Alan,
I had one of the carbon fiber mandolins that Peter Mix built. Very cool but I did not think it sounded much
like a traditional mandolin - also, it would not cut a banjo. Here's hoping the...
Does anyone know of a shop that regularly deals in the older bowl backs, like the Raffaele Calace and the Embergher models? Also I guess higher grade Gibson, Martin and Vega bowl backs as well.

RIP Roland. We did a deal or two.He was extremely nice and down to earth and easy to deal with.
Its a big loss for the music world.
This is going to completely change the guitar scene in Nashville. Two great companies - I have had dealings with them both.
Thanks Chris for the reply. I've seen several Price tailpieces, but they were not like this. They were a solid one piece of metal. But as I said, I've never seen one of these before....
Here is something I've never seen before. It is the tailpiece cover on the 1980 Red Diamond in the classifieds. It is hinged on the treble side. Guess that will stop it from coming off and getting...
i agreewith you. An obvious refinish.
