I seem to remember reading that Chris Thile had the fretboard replaced on his Loar. I agree that preservation is important but so is playability. I guess if he kept the old keyboard it could be...

No financial interest.
Ditto on Collings MT. Could be a lifetime instrument or a trade in/sale later for another instrument.
Hysterical. Obviously very good friends.
D'addario lights are 10 to 38. Elixir lights are 10 to 34. Not a ton of difference but I use them and like them, particularly for longevity.
The carry-on regs are similar to this (American's below):
We calculate the size limits of your bag by adding the total outside dimensions of each bag, length + width + height. For all regions,...
My first learning was from the Homespun DVD by Chris Thile. Really great. So nice to have the visual references and several songs that he played/taught. I also have the Mike Marshall and Sierra...
I saw him in concert many years ago. He said that he was flying and could only take his mandolin with him. He wrote it at his destination (somewhere) on the mandolin as it was all he had. So it...

I use the iStroboSoft iPhone app and the Stoboclip HD. Both same company and algorithms. Both extremely accurate.
The difference is (as previously noted) that the phone mic listens to all the...
To complicate tone matters, according to the clip, Kym's MT2 is engleman. It (and he) sound wonderful.
That sounds great!
Note that MT (which I have) has an Engleman top. MT2 has a Adirondack top. Sound is a bit different if you are looking at the lower priced MT (vs. MT2) model.
The F holes...
Just as a reference from the Collings site (I have an MT):
Fingerboard Radius 5 1/2" - 11 5/8" compound
I like it (a lot). But I've never really played a flat fingerboard so only used to...
Thanks Kevin. One of five Marines in my family. Alas, the only one trying to play the Mandolin.
I keep telling myself it wasn’t let handed so I couldn’t use it.
Or . . .
I already have a Texas mandolin (Collings MT)
And, by the way, some idiotic municipalities require separately collected and stated sales taxes. As local governments get pressed by increasing costs of running themselves (not to mention...
Here's a great video on the state of ebony in the world from Bob Taylor. Pertains to more species than ebony . . .

I believe I saw Chris Hillman doing a Library of Congress (or similar) recap of his musical career and mentioned getting a Loar as a gift from Steven Stills.
+1 on loving my lefty MT. Wonderful construction, sound and action. My second one. The first was wide nut and I prefer the standard width i have now.
+1 on the case covers. I've always had Small Dogs but a couple with Colorado Case Company covers. (Same company now).
They make a big difference!

Don't forget Sean's solo albums . . . some nice mandolin on them.
