If someone wants a fancy doo-dad mandolin, and they can afford it, more power to them.
Even better if it inspires them to play more, placebo or not.
Just sayin'

I dunno... What if at times you want a bit softer sound with more sustain? You hug the mando a bit closer to you to change the tone. Hold it away when you want more attack and bass.
I like having...
I've been searching for a Mic. My first inclination is to get a Shure SM57. Is that a good choice?
There are also some imported large diaphragm mics on amazon for a similar price.
I'm unsure...
Are there any players that are outstanding at it?
My setup from The Mandolin Store was not to my liking.
To be fair, they offered to pay for a set up. (I declined, grumbled a bit, and set it up myself)
So you will be ok with them.
I'd still be playing guitar. Might try a concertina.
I have the same model. Took a while to get it set up right. It goes a bit out tune sometimes, but I think that's normal for most mandolins.
I have a cheapest of the cheap pac-rim mandolin. It plays ok, much, much better than no mandolin. Just get what you can afford and play it.
More practice will make you sound better than an...
I know I have to file the nut a bit, but I'm unsure how I should do it. Should I make the slot wider, or fill it in, and make it more narrow?
Thank you for any advice.
My favorite is "Gently used pre-owned mandolin. Lifetime warranty for original buyer!"
:))
Just about anything is an upgrade from a rogue! :D
The first bit of advice I took was to modify a couple of my picks (Fender nylon 1.1) to be less pointy and a lot more rounded. It makes a big difference indeed. It does make sense too. You need a...
Yes, I had to do a bit of setup. I changed the strings twice - first time with Ernie Ball light strings, which I didn't like. Then I went with the tried and true D'Addario EJ74s and will try those...
I appreciate all the feedback. I'm not around other mandolin players, so this like gold to me.
Yes, it has laminate sides. But heck, many people sound great on mandolins even with laminate/pressed tops. I'm saving up for a better instrument, but I have what I have for now. I'm basically just...
Former electric lead guitar player, but I saw the light.
I've been trying to play mandolin about 3 months now, and I'm having trouble getting what I consider a "good sound". I'm unsure if it's my...
I've only played two so I don't know.
*shrugs*
Happy new mandolin day!
You can hold it close and push it out for a cheap phase-shifter effect. :)
Happy New Mandolin Day!
I had one for a month and passed it on as well. It's certainly enough to find out if there is indeed an interest.
I bought one of the inexpensive mandolins (The Loar LM110a from a cafe sponsor) Honestly, I don't know any better, and I think it's fine. Certainly light-years above the Rouge I only owned for a...
I'm going to get the version with the pickup built-in for my next mandolin!
Nice playing.
I've warmed up to it a bit. I've been playing it pretty much non-stop.
