Had a similar repair done on a 24 snakehead by Gail Hester. She did an excellent job.
First news of his death was reported in a Feb 26 th thread by Russ Jorden. He said he read of the death of northern Va. builder Buddy Davis in an edition of Bluegtass Unlimited.
I purchased it from the original owner early on and am not sure. From what I understand he worked in the lumber business and used 100 + year old lumber from reclaimed doors so fir is a good bet.
You should recheck either the serial number or date of manufacture. I own #50 which was built in October of 2002. It's my dailey player and an excellent instrument. If the one in question is in good...
Andrew is a fantastic builder who has somehow stayed under the radar. His fit and finish and attention to detail are superb as well as the tone of his creations. Besides that he is a nice guy and...
What a shame. Someone certainly devalued that baby as far as this market is concerned.
Hi Richard and welcome to Florida. I am not too far away from you. Send me pm when you are settled in if you like.

Date stamp on plcture is from 2008. Lot can happen to a mandolin in 6 years.
Thanks for the opportunity.

Thanks for the opportunity. Count me in.

Great. I have two mandolins there that I am suppose to pick up the end of this month. Last talked to Josh Vest about three weeks ago and all seemed fine. Have my fingers crossed that this is all a...
I commissioned build #32, an F-5, with Andy. From my experience I don't believe you will be disappointed in any aspect of the quality, workmanship, or tone of this mandolin.
I also have a 1999 Derrington. Excellent mando in all aspects.
Jill, I own a flamed custom by Darren which was his 14th build. All in all it is a fine mandolin in fit and finish with a great voicing. I have been extremely happy with it in all regards.
Way to go.Gail. Thanks for the excellent job on the '24 snake. It's become my favorite of the herd.
Steve-o,
Thanks for the kind words. We tried to model #32 after 74002, the last recorded July 9th Loar, and Andy did an awesome job. Best of all it sounds as good as it looks. Andy is certainly at...
Tenth picture down appears to show a crack on bass side bout if I'm not mistaken.
Took possession of #32 yesterday. Simply fantastic in all aspects.
Bob- Be sure to go see Frank Greathouse at Real Guitars on Fowler Street(SR41)in Ft. Myers.
Here are the latest 3 and possibly the last of the customs for awhile currenly being finished in Andy's shop. Mine is the sidebound july 9th '23 copy
J.C.- Punta Gorda is on the gulf coast north of Ft. Myers. I haven't met your buddies in Titusville but do spend some time close by in Satellite Beach.
