    Re: My mandolin exploration

Just followed the Sarah Jaroz link, which led me to I’m With Her. They had me at Crossing Muddy Waters, but it was all good. Not much mando, though. She played a lot of the guitar-sized instrument...

    My mandolin exploration

Since buying an Eastman a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been listening to a lot of mandolin music. So far, I really like David Grisman and Chris Theile. Who else should I be listening to? So far, I think...
  4. Re: Collings MT Gloss Top, Top Binding and Wide Nut-- Waiting!

Oh I’m not saying Taylor’s are in the same level with Collings. I. Just not a fan of very bright guitars. And in all fairness, my experience with Collings is very limited.
  5. Re: Collings MT Gloss Top, Top Binding and Wide Nut-- Waiting!

I’ve never gotten used to the sound of their guitars. I keep seeing them highly praised, so I pick one every time I get a chance. Bright. Like loud Taylors, without the chime that is Taylor’s charm....

Re: Your favorite course of strings?

I’m new to this, so I like whichever course I’m fretting cleanly at the moment. FWIW, the courses of my cheap Eastman seem to be pretty balanced.
  7. Re: So I tried to improvise for the first time, live in a jam ses

Guitar players have been “improvising” by playing the same licks over and over for decades. It’s a time-honored tradition.

I don’t know who makes them, but these are really pretty for a budget instrument. I love the pearl buttons.

    Re: Have You Ever... (NMC)

Nice. Being a little old man musician, I have an appreciation of little old lady musicians.

Yes they do. I can’t speak for mandos, but my Eastman acoustic, a mahogany Adirondack OM, is a really good guitar. Not “good for the money,” good. Very good. And my two electrics - one of...

    Re: Well, she’s here...

I bought a strap with it, but there’s no button, and the strap didn’t include a piece of leather to tie it off with. I’ll get a button, that’s what I’m used to. Strap over one shoulder or around the...

    Well, she’s here...

    170908

...and she sure is pretty. I’ve been saying 808, but it’s an Eastman 805. I’m an Eastman guitar owner - 2 electrics and an acoustic, so I was expecting clean workmanship, and I got it. Very...

    Re: Preamp for K&K pickup?

Why not? Wouldn’t inversions from the guitar’s EADG just be flipped over? My Mando arrives today. I’m counting on that as my quick-start guide....

Yeah, “my e string comes off is definitely a first world problem, and I hear y’all: experiment with strings and picks, nothing else really needs upgrading.

    Re: Mando detail questions

Fair enough. What about strings? 11s? Phosphor bronze a good place to start? And I ordered a couple of Dawg picks to try the round tip thing, have enough small, stiff Dunlop Primetone Jazz to try...

    Mando detail questions

I’m going to need a smaller string winder, huh?

    Will my guitar tuners work?

What is the virtue of an armrest?

This is a very cool design. Anybody using one?...
  22. Re: Bose S1 Pro rechargable amp, backpack unit. Love it!

I’m s big believer in simple preamps and small powered PA speakers. I’ve never owned an “acoustic amp.”

    Re: Preamp for K&K pickup?

I have a Yamaha mixer and some QSC actives, but I need to be able to get it sorted ay my end. Too many House PAs. I need to count on nothing but volume from them.
