Richard's recording of a Dowland tune gave me the idea to also try a Renaissance tune. I remembered that I had a sheet music book with fantasies by Dowland contemporary Anthony Holborne arranged for mandolin and guitar. I chose The Maydens of the Country. To learn something about the tempo of the tune, I searched Youtube, but only found this carillon player: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC8vJWlom0A
Good ensemble playing! I'm conscious of the challenges in timing. You solved them very well.
Fine playing, Christian. Mandolin and guitar combine really well here.
Christian, that is lovely - not a tune I had heard before. I echo both the previous comments. The mandolin-guitar combination seems to work particularly well for lute music. And getting the timing right with multiple lines can be a challenge (more so on two instruments than on one).
Exceedingly beautiful Christian. I really enjoy your inimitable hesitant style with this carefully played performance. Every melodic phrase is like existential wonder. Twice as long next time please!
