It's not that I'm having problems with the notes but it's going to take some time to get up to speed.

Bluegrass is fast! (but you already know that)

    In the meantime...........
any suggestions for some slower songs?

    keep it simple please.

Are you talking about playing the melody, or trying to strum or chop along with the chords?

Crabgrass - I'm talking about learning the melody. I'd rather concertrate on picking.
    The chords are secondary.

A lot of the fiddle tunes are slower. Here's a website with tabs for some of the basic tunes. You can just print them out using the .gif version:

    Hope this helps.

Oh, when you get to the website, click on "Tablature"; that gives you the list of songs.

the last thing that you can do while learning to play
is trying to play fast from the very begining
you're muscle will learn all the bed moves, you'll have them tenced all the time
    and believe it will hurt.
play relaxed and in your own paste.
the more you'll play the better you're technique will become and you'll be better to play faster and faster.

I am finding the bare bones version of Angeline the Baker to be a relatively easy and pleasant sounding bluegrass type tune to learn. The notes just fall so comfortably and I find myself needing to slow down because they flow together so well. I am using the beginner version for mandolin/bouzouki found here:

You have to install the free TefView program on that site to use it, but it is nice because you can play it back as slow as you want while watching it move through the notes. Really helps with tone and timing. Scale it to 1/8 notes (on the TefView program) and start playing it.

    thanks everyone.
I'm sure I just need more time to get up to speed. It will happen.
I'll take a look at the sites mentioned.

    Thanks Wayne
