Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra concert
The BMO will appear as part of the Catonsville Presbyterian Church’s 2017-2018 Concert Series on Sunday, November 19, at 3:00 p.m. Come hear the BMO perform a new season of nostalgic mandolin music. What you will hear is at once old and new. The sound of a mandolin orchestra is quite unique. We’ll start off with a lively march composed by the orchestra’s founder, Conrad Gebelein. A variety of lovely concert dance tunes is on the agenda for this concert – a couple of grand waltzes, a mazurka, a gavotte, and a medley of Greek dance tunes. We will also play a ragtime tune and a piece from a Handel opera featuring a trumpet soloist. Several members of the BMO’s very successful youth classical mandolin instruction program called Mando for Kids will perform a movement from a Vivaldi concerto. These youngsters are extremely talented, and they are full-fledged members of the BMO. They’ve made exceptional progress in the short six years of the program, and you’ll be amazed at their accomplishment. Drigo’s “Serenade” will round out the instrumental part of the program. In addition, Beatrice Gilbert, the BMO’s long-time resident soprano, will sing a couple of lovely songs from operas and one from a French movie.
Catonsville Presbyterian Church is located at 1400 Frederick Road in Catonsville, Maryland. Admission is free, and there will be a reception after the concert.
