Berkeley, Calif. — Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg have announced their first MandoKids workshop to be held August 24 at The Freight and Salvage Coffee House as a part of the venue's continued music education programs for young musicians.

Children aged 9-14 will have an opportunity to study with two world class mandolinists and will spend the day engaged in basics including how to properly hold the instrument, left- and right-hand basics, simple chords and strumming patterns, tremolo, sing-alongs, and bluegrass, classical, pop and folk songs melodies.

Beginners are welcome and instruments will be available to those without access to a mandolin.

An Early Bird admission rate is available for $120 with the rate increasing to $130 August 16. Advance registration is strongly encouraged as a sell-out is anticipated.

About the instructors:

Caterina Lichtenburg is one of the world's top classical mandolinists. Her 20 year touring and teaching career has taken her around the globe. Caterina holds the only Professor position in all of Europe at the Music Conservatory in Cologne, Germany.

Mike Marshall's work with David Grisman, Chris Thile, Darol Anger, Edgar Meyer, and Bela Fleck has pushed the boundaries of acoustic music. Mike created the Mandolin Symposium, a week long mandolin camp, and has published seven books on mandolin playing and is the mandolin teacher for the Artists Works Academy of Bluegrass online school.
