August 19, 2008 - 9:00 am
San Francisco, Ca. — Achille Bocus, Director of the Milan Plucked String Orchestra of Italy will host a workshop for the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra on Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1268 Sanchez.
The orchestra is inviting experienced mandolin family and guitar players from outside the orchestra to make this one larger event.
Sheet music will be available in advance via email for those participating. The workshop organizers ask $20 (low-income $10) from each participant, with payment made at the workshop by cash.
The workshop will be similar in format to the event held in March where the orchestra studied one 20th century piece and one from the 18th century. This time Achille has selected one the 19th century piece and one from the 17th century, which contrast each other in technique and interpretation. More information will be sent in a separate email.
The workshop is timed to be the week before the orchestra recommences with its Fall rehearsal and concert schedule. We welcome new members at that time.
The Milan Plucked String Orchestra is one of Italy's largest and oldest mandolin orchestras. Achille has conducted the orchestra for the last two years and played in it since a teenager. He is also a professional orchestral Double Bass player.
