Seattle, Wash. — Dusty Strings is proud to host an evening of acoustic roots music in a benefit concert for mandolinist Butch Baldassari on Saturday, December 1, 2007, 7:30 p.m. at the Dusty Strings store, 3406 Fremont Ave. N.
Tickets are $25, available at Dusty Strings. All proceeds from the concert will go to support the Baldassari Medical Fund.
The fund-raiser features Latin and jazz-influenced original instrumentals by John Reischman and John Miller, acoustic blues by Orville Johnson, John Miller and Grant Dermody, and bluegrass and old-time music by John Reischman, Trisha Gagnon, and Nick Hornbuckle.
Butch is a highly respected and well-loved mandolin player and teacher based in Nashville, recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The music community has banded together to support Butch's recovery.
A Pennsylvania native, Butch vowed to learn the mandolin after hearing Andy Statman at the 1972 Philadelphia Folk Festival. He went on to play with the Weary Hearts bluegrass band in the late 1980s and founded the award-winning Nashville Mandolin Ensemble in 1991.
Butch has appeared on dozens of albums, teaches mandolin at Vanderbilt University, and has his own record label, SoundArt Recordings.
