American Mandolin and Guitar Concert Series

The "American Mandolin & Guitar Concert Series" will be held on the campus of Roger Williams University, in Bristol, Rhode Island, from Tuesday, June 22 through Saturday, June 26, 2004.

Now in its 19th year, the series features international concert artists performing a wide variety of music, from Baroque and Classical-era chamber music to jazz guitar duets and Brazilian choro. A highlight of this year's Concert Series are performances by the California solo mandolinist, Evan Marshall.

Concerts will be held in the Performing Arts Center of Roger Williams University, Bristol, Rhode Island. All concerts are open to the public, and many are free of charge.


Tuesday, June 22 at 8:00 PM in "The Barn":
"Enigmatica ~ Baroque, Brazilian, Contemporary"

A CD-release concert by the Boston-based mandolin septet, directed by Marilynn Mair. This concert celebrates the release of Enigmatica's eponymous debut CD. Music by Baroque composers, Bach & Handel; Brazilian composers, Bandolim & Nazareth; and contemporary composers, Marshall, Harlan, and others.

This concert is free and open to the public.


Wednesday, June 23 at 8:00 PM in "The Barn":
"A Festival of Plucked Strings"

The renown American Mandolin & Guitar Summer School faculty & their musical friends perform a varied program of music for mandolins and guitars, ranging from Mozart sonatas to jazz guitar duets.

This concert is free and open to the public.


Thursday, June 24 at 8:00 PM in "The Barn":
"Marilynn Mair & Friends"

Bach, Brazilian choro, and original compositions by the performers highlight this concert by the internationally-renown Rhode-Island based mandolinist,

Marilynn Mair, performing with noted Rhode Island composer Will Ayton, and Boston jazz guitarist extraordinaire, Adam Larrabee.

This concert is free and open to the public.


Friday, June 25 at 8:00 PM in "The Barn":
"Evan Marshall ~ Mandolin Magic"

The incredible solo-mandolin wizardry of California mandolinist, Evan Marshall, is legendary. Come see him perform the impossible, in his unique solo-mandolin arrangements that range from Beatles tunes to Dvorak's Hungarian dances.

This concert is open to the public, with a $10 donation for AMGuSS & the Hibbard Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Saturday, June 26 at 8:00 PM in "The Barn":
"The American Mandolin & Guitar Orchestra"
Conductor: Robert Paul Sullivan

The performers in this 50-person plucked-string orchestra hail from all parts of the United States and Canada. Their annual Rhode Island performance is the culmination of a week of rehearsals at the American Mandolin & Guitar Summer School. In addition, this year's concert features California solo-mandolinist Evan Marshall performing Hummel's Classical-Era "Concerto for Mandolin" with AMGO.

This concert is open to the public, with a $10 donation for AMGuSS & the Hibbard Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund.
