Boiling Springs, S.C. — Wayne Benson, the critically acclaimed mandolinist for IIIrd Tyme Out has recently relocated and is offering private mandolin instruction in the Spartanburg, South Carolina area.
In addition to his long-time contributions in IIIrd Tyme Out and a stint with the John Cowan Band, Benson has also appeared as an instructor at the Mandolin Symposium and has authored tablature and DVD instructional materials for AcuTab.
In 2003, Wayne released his first solo project, An Instrumental Anthology. With 12 original compositions, this recording explores styles ranging from straight-ahead bluegrass to more progressive melodies.
Wayne has appeared on the cover of Bluegrass Now, Mandolin Quarterly, and Bluegrass Unlimited, while also enjoying numerous IBMA awards and the SPBGMA Mandolin Player of the Year award, five consecutive years.
After giving private instruction on an occasional basis for years, this is the first time he's committed to weekly students, providing them an opportunity to study on an extended basis with one of the premier acoustic mandolinists anywhere.
