David Surette Octave Mandolin and Irish Bouzouki Workshop and Concert

December 20, 2006 - 8:00 am

Stratham, N.H. — David Surette will present a workshop for intermediate to advanced players of the octave mandolin on January 7, 2007 at Acoustic Outfitters Music Shop.

The octave mandolin, also known as the Irish bouzouki or cittern, has become a fixture in the Celtic music world, due to the influence of well-known players such as Donal Lunny and Andy Irvine. Yet its sparkling voice is heard with increasing frequency in the worlds of contemporary folk and traditional roots music as well.

Participants in the workshop will learn tunes, tunings, chords, runs, and other tricks of the trade from a widely-admired player and teacher. Bring instruments and tape recorders, and plan to stay for a 4:00 p.m. concert featuring Surette, as well as an opening set from Carol Coronis, who specialized in Greek music on the octave mandolin.
