Norman Levine, former publisher of the Mandolin Quarterly and founder of the Classical Mandolin Society of America announces the formation of a new company, Best Music Source, Inc., which has replaced Plucked String, Inc.

Whereas Plucked String was a one-person operation, Best Music Source has a staff that will provide the mandolin world with international distribution, more rapid order filling, bigger selection of its own publications, concerts, seminars and all phases of mandolin needs.

Although handling a much wider variety of music for fretted and other instrumentations, mandolin remains a mainstay of the company. A printed catalog is in preparation and interested persons are invited to be on the mailing list for a copy when it appears. A web site is planned for the near future.

Best Music Source concert programs will begin in earnest with a July 8, 2006 concert featuring Richard Walz, Charlie Rappaport and the Baltimore Quartet. On September 9 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Tony Williamson will open the program, which will feature Ricky Skaggs in the second half. Tony will give a mandolin seminar that afternoon. Other concerts, seminars and jams will be announced.

Best Music Source works closely with not-for-profit Plucked String Foundation to enhance mandolin and other fretted instruments via grants to worthy projects and persons who do work that is very needed but not commercially viable. Right now, emphasis is on teaching and research. As an example of activities: ten mandolins donated to first-to-third graders in Lititz, Pennsylvania, who are taught by a local teacher. Getting mandolin into school curricula is an important function of the Foundation, which donated funds to start the very first introduction of mandolin into an American public school course program at Montgomery, Alabama.

Donations are gladly invited. They are Federal income-tax deductible though we advise donors to check with their accountants. Address for donations:
