San Francisco Festival of Mandolins

The San Francisco Festival of Mandolins announces its sixth year of offering the widest spectrum of mandolin music available in California.

This year's program includes performances by John Reishman, and John Miller, Rich DelGrosso, the Aurora Mandolin Orchestra, The Hot Frittatas, Eva Scow and Avi Avital.

Doors open at 11:00 AM. Everyone is welcome to play in a BYO Mandolin Orchestra at noon. There will be workshops by the performers from 1:00 - 3:00 PM with the concert at 3:00 PM followed by dancing, open mic and jamming. Food and drink will be served from 1:00 PM.

There will also be a chance to see a selection of mandolins, including one of California native wood recently made by Garberville luthier, Bud Rogers, which features madrone wood, intricate carving and inlays.

This is a rare chance for mandolin players from classical to bluegrass to klezmer to share traditions and learn from masters and from each other. It is also an opportunity for those interested in mandolin music to see its broad use and enjoy the music as performed by some of the most outstanding musicians today.
